The museum declined to take part in the investigation explaining that most of the objects in its military collection are weapons, uniforms and utensils which are not uniquely identifiable.

About this museum and its collection

The museum presents the history of this and other forts in Den Helder. French Emperor Napoleon ordered Kijkduin Fort to be built in 1811 in the old whaling village of Huisduinen. The exhibition describes the landing of British and Russian troops in North Holland in 1799, Napoleon Bonaparte’s visit to Den Helder and the coastal lighting on Kijkduin dune.
