Conclusion
It is not certain when and under what circumstances the painting left the collection of the German-Jewish banker and art collector Jakob Goldschmidt.
Explanation
This painting entered the collection of the museum with the acquisition of the estate of D.G. van Beuningen in 1958, who had acquired it from the art dealer Jacques Goudstikker in 1939. It is known that the work was in the possession of the German-Jewish banker and art collector Jakob Goldschmidt in 1930. It seems to still have been in his collection in 1937, possibly 1938. Goldschmidt fled Berlin in 1933 and settled in the United States in 1936, where he passed away in 1958.
