Explanation

This painting was part of Jewish art dealer Jacques Goudstikker’s collection. It was in Goudstikker’s possession at the outbreak of the Second World War. Alois Miedl, who took over the art gallery when Goudstikker fled, consigned the work for sale at a Frederik Muller auction on 8 and 9 October 1940. Goudstikker died in an accident while fleeing the country on 16 May 1940.
