Conclusion

It is not known when or from whom Kunsthandel Miethke acquired this painting and how it came to be part of the museum collection.

Explanation

In 1938, this painting was in the possession of Miethke art gallery in Vienna. Nothing is known of its previous provenance. Jewish art historian Hugo Haberfeld had run Miethke gallery since 1907. Following the Anschluss in March 1938, when Germany annexed Austria, Haberfeld fled with his wife and children to France.
